Interprofessional Education (IPE) at UIC

The Collaborative for Excellence in Interprofessional Education (CEIPE) was formed at UIC in 2008 in recognition of the growing emphasis on interprofessional education (IPE) and interprofessional collaborative practice (ICP). CEIPE includes faculty representation from the College of Applied Health Sciences, College of Dentistry, College of Medicine, College of Nursing, College of Pharmacy, the Library of the Health Sciences, the Office of Diversity, the Institute for Patient Safety Excellence, and the School of Public Health. (Refer to Appendix A for a listing of founding CEIPE members).

CEIPE’s overarching long-term goal is to deliver state-of-the-art IPE learning experiences for all students in UIC health professions programs and ultimately produce graduates who understand the critical relationship between teamwork and collaborative, patient centered care and contribute to the achievement of the Institute for Healthcare Improvement’s Triple Aim which includes improving the patient experience of care, improving the health of populations, and reducing the per capita cost of health care.

CEIPE has pursued this long-tem goal with careful consideration of the consensus based Core Competencies for Interprofessional Collaborative Practice developed by the Interprofessional Education Collaborative in 2011.
